Axolotls Endangered

I know it's a salamander. But that smiling face hits my "awr" buttons.

    Are axoltls really endangered? cuz they can be pets, and they were endangered, pet axolotls would be illigal.

    Mudikip is my favorite pokemon.But i never thouth it would be so cute.I want axolotl because i want to save the little guy.Thanks!!!
